On the very same day I was booked to shoot Marky Ramone for Hilfiger Denim, I got a request from Tommy Hilfiger Men & Womenswear too: to take backstage photos of their line opening. I felt like a spy – I worked so secretly and kept so quiet that most of the time the models and staff didn’t even notice me. I was able to see what really happens backstage – a chance reserved only for a lucky few.
It was a major event, but I felt really comfortable. This series was gained a lot of media coverage, and it was exhibited in Amsterdam and can still be admired in the Tommy offices in Amsterdam.
Later on, I realised that this shoot was a turning point for me. It changed my perspective – I went from from backstage documentary shoots to on-set fashion shoots. I’m excited that I’ve been involved in many Tommy Hilfiger studio shoots since that time.
