Jens van der Velde hails from Groningen, the Netherlands. After building his own DJ booth, painting his mother’s bicycle with neon colors, bleaching his clothes, copying album covers in the library and coloring them to create his own posters and customizing blank school diaries, he got his degree in Economics. And that is why it made perfect sense to buy a backpack and start working and traveling for over a year to discover the world.
While traveling, he went completely bankrupt by buying a semi-pro camera, which turned out to be a life-changing choice. This newly-discovered combination of photography and being independent pulled on him harder than having a career in international business, which is what he had been working on since his backpack adventure. He moved close to Amsterdam and since then he has concentrated on following his true passion – photography/film in music, fashion and portraiture.
Many (international) artists and labels have discovered his work, and his reputation has grown beyond the Dutch borders. The whole world is now discovering that platinum-quality photos which capture a timeless and intimate moment means that Jens has left his mark once again.
Jens now resides on the outskirts of Amsterdam lives together with his two children.
