Tim Knol is a multi-talented musician who can do it all. He performs on his own, with his punk band The Miseries, composes music for films, and even has his own beer brand. The first time I met Tim he was the opening act for the Dutch Indie band Johan. This band was on a farewell tour through the Netherlands and OOR music magazine asked me for a number of pictures. In a former church up north in the Netherlands, where big rounds of applause are few and far between, Tim played so well that even the back row of the audience jumped to their feet, and at that moment, everyone realized the same thing – this was an incredible new talent.
We became friends at that time and I did the photography for two of his albums, designed an album as well, did many press photos, filmed two video clips and even made a short documentary about him.
The photos for the Soldier On album cover were taken in Paris. We had already shot all the photos for this album in this beautiful city, so we decided to check out a record store that Tim really wanted to visit. We took the wrong street and got totally lost, but when we realised that, we both looked down a magical side street and 5 minutes later: BAM .. the cover photo was born!
